How Did You? - Cutting

I wanted to answer the question, "hey how did you...?" when it comes to cutting multiple fabrics to the same length. I try to be very careful when I do this but the results are great and it's quick and easy. I haven't had a problem *crossing fingers*!

Here's an image of the first cut from my Crayon Roll pattern. I lay down the exterior (print) fabric face down, then the interior (solid) fabric and finally the stabilizer (fusible side down). Here's where you have to be careful; use pins! Make sure you pin all 3 layers together. Then mark your dimensions carefully.

Excuse the wonky stabilizer and pen marks! I purchase stabilizer by the bolt and the first 1/2 yard was completely wrinkled! No matter, it'll all smooth out when ironed. While you have your 3 layers pinned, cut out the pattern making sure you cut through all 3 layers. Tada! You now have 3 layers of fabric, all the same length :)

Undo the pins, iron on your stabilizer and continue constructing your Crayon Roll :)

Hope this helps!

  1. Hi Thanita. I didn't have your email address and I wanted to answer your question on my blog about the waffle dish cloths. The fabric should ideally be prewashed. I do have a walking foot but I didn't use it for this project. I pressed in between each step though and that really helped lay everything flat. Good luck! You've got some cute stuff happening on your blog!
